Format panels: U.S. Airplay formats and station lists

Format describes the type of programming on a radio station. Most formats are based on a combination of genre, release age and intended audience.


Billboard and Luminate maintain format panels: lists of radio stations associated with a particular format. (Some stations appear on more than one panel). We track radio airplay on these stations to inform format-specific Airplay charts.

Billboard U.S. format panels

U.S. Billboard radio formats are listed alphabetically. Each format corresponds with a Billboard Airplay chart. Use the dropdowns to see station panels for each format.

Adult Alternative / Triple A
Triple A / AAA = Adult Album Alternative.

Used for the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart.


Adult Contemporary / AC
Used for the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.



Adult Pop
Sometimes called Adult Top 40. Used for the Billboard Adult Pop Airplay chart.


Adult R&B
Used for the Billboard Adult R&B Airplay chart.



Alternative
Used for the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart.



Christian
Used for the Billboard Christian Airplay chart.



Christian AC
Used for the Billboard Christian AC Airplay chart.



Country
Used for the Billboard Country Airplay chart.



Dance/Mix Show
Used for the Billboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart.



Gospel
Used for the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart.



Hot 100 / Radio Songs
Used for the Billboard Radio Songs chart.

Luminate U.S. format panels

Luminate curates a few additional format panels for stations and formats not included in Billboard Airplay charts. These can help provide a fuller picture of Airplay consumption. Luminate formats can be applied as filters from the Data Controls menu on Dashboards or in certain Reports. However, we do not publish charts for non-Billboard formats. 


Our non-Billboard format panels are listed alphabetically below. Use the dropdowns to see station panels for each format. 

Adult Hits
Used for the Luminate Adult Hits format (non-Billboard). 



Classic Rock
Used for the Luminate Classic Rock format (non-Billboard). 



Classic Hits
Used for the Luminate Classic Hits format (non-Billboard).
