SV(M) Ranking Report: Sort and export streaming titles

SV(M) Ranking Report: Sort and export streaming titles

Create a Ranking Report to see a list of most-watched titles within custom parameters.

Unlike the SV(M) Charts, which rank streaming originals for each chart week, Ranking Reports allow flexible date ranges and include library titles.

Navigation

Open Ranking Report from the SV(M) sidebar menu.

Back to User Guide

Build your report

A Ranking Report is a ranked list of up to 200 TV shows or movies, with list order determined by either total time watched or total views.

Report Builder fields are pre-filled with default selections. Click any field to change defaults for depth, category, ranking type, date, genre and/or platform (see below for details on each).

The Reset button restores default fields. When you're ready, click Apply Changes to accept selections and generate a ranking.

  1. Set depth

The first two fields indicate depth (how many items) and category (type of title). A Ranking Report can list 50, 100 or 200 titles at a time.

See Depth selection
Click the number after "Top ___" and select a depth from the pop-up menu.

Click DONE to close the menu with your choice applied.

  1. Choose category and ranking type

The next fields indicate title category (TV Shows or Movies) and how to rank them. You can rank titles by minutes watched (default) or by number of views.

See Category selection
Ranking Reports can rank either Movies or TV Shows. Click "Movies" to open the Category pop-up and change the default selection from Movies to TV, if desired.

TV Shows can be ranked by Season or by Series; you must choose one. TV Shows - Season treats each season of each show as a separate title in your ranking. TV Shows - Series combines all available seasons into one title for the purposes of your report.

Click DONE to close the menu with your choice applied.

See "Ranked by" selection
Choose a metric by which to rank titles. Whichever metric you choose will determine list order.

Note that Views are not available for all titles. If you rank by Views, some titles that appear in a Minutes Watched ranking may be excluded from your report.

Why don't all titles display Views?
The Views metric estimates how many times a movie or TV season was completed in full. We calculate Views based on duration: the runtime of a movie or the combined runtime of a TV season (counting only available episodes within the report time frame). Read more here

Over 80% of titles in SV(M) have duration metadata attached. When we don't know the runtime for a title in a report, the "VIEWS" column will list a "-" value.

Titles that appear in a Minutes Watched ranking but don't include Views will be excluded from a Views-based Ranking Report.

To check this, start with a Minutes Watched ranking, then click the VIEWS column header twice to sort views in ascending order.

  1. Set Time Frame

Click the date field after “during ____” to open the Time Frame menu.

See Time Frame selection
Click the date field or use the dropdown in the top menu bar to set a date range for your report.

Open the Time Frame menu, then change the selection from Current Week (default) to Last Week, Year to Date or Custom.

Ranking Reports allow custom date ranges. Choose Custom to pick any start and end date regardless of chart week. Use the calendar to highlight your desired date(s) or select chart weeks from the left column.

  1. Filter by genre and platform (optional)

Ranking Reports default to all genres and all available platforms, with no filtering. If desired, you can narrow your ranking to include only certain genres and streaming platforms. Click the fields after in the genre and available on to open the Genre and Platform pop-up menus.

See Genre selection
Open the Genre pop-up to change the default selection from All.

You can choose as many genres as you want to include.

Some titles have more than one genre designation. Selecting a genre will include any title with that genre attached, even if it’s not the only one that applies. For example, choosing Animation will most likely include titles in Family, Kids and Comedy as well.

Click DONE to close the menu with your genre selection applied.

See Platform selection
Filter by streaming platform availability.

Setting platform filters will exclude titles that aren't available on any of those streamers during your selected time frame.

NOTE: Just as several genres can apply to one title, many titles are available concurrently on more than one platform. The Platform filter captures "platform of origin" as well as "all other platforms that offer the title to stream."

  1. Finalize and create ranking

When you’re done editing, click Apply Changes. Ranked titles will appear below.

See an example: TV Season Ranking Report
The below example ranks the top 100 streaming TV seasons n the Western, Thriller and/or Crime genres for the year to date on select platforms.

The TV Show - Season selection ranks a season at a time, meaning it's possible for two seasons of the same show to appear in a report.

Numerical ranking is determined by total minutes watched for each title as of the selected date range. We also include Male/Female percentage splits; the CONFIDENCE rating refers to those demographic modeled figures only.

For TV Ranking Reports. DURATION and EPISODES show how many episodes and minutes were available in the report time frame. This helps contextualize viewership as well as the VIEWS metric, which estimates how many times someone watched all available episodes during your date range.

When we don't have a series duration as part of our metadata, that title will display a blank "-" Views value.

Ranking grid options
Click column headers to sort your list by title, release date, duration, or season in ascending or descending order. Drag columns to rearrange.

Even if you sort by a different metric, the leftmost column shows original list position based on minutes watched. Click the MIN WATCHED header to return to the original list order.

Ranking Reports include library titles, not just streaming originals.

Export your report

Click the ... icon at top right to export a Ranking Report as a CSV or Excel.

Ranking Reports will download in grid form. Ranking exports include more metadata than can be seen in the UI, with additional columns for available platforms, Luminate IDs and database IDs.
Exported file names
SV(M) automatically generates file names for report exports. They include the report type, date, and a unique timestamp. For example:

            Ranking Report-Thu Nov 07 2024-1731028686830.csv

See an example: TV Show Ranking export
Exported Ranking Reports include additional information. We add columns for Creators, Platform Availability, IMDb ID and Luminate Film & TV ID.

Platform Availability lists streamers that carry the title as of the Ranking Report run date.
