Comparison: Head-to-head performance data

Comparison: Head-to-head performance data

Use the Comparison feature to see multiple weeks of viewing data for up to 6 titles at a time.

Navigation

Open Comparison from the SV(M) sidebar menu.

To facilitate useful comparison and prevent apples-to-oranges measurement, SV(M) compares performance during and after each title’s initial release window regardless of date.

Build your Comparison

From the SV(M) sidebar menu, go to Comparison. Then:

  1. Choose what to compare

Select the entity type you want to analyze—MOVIES or TV SHOWS—from the tabs at top left.

  1. Search for titles

Start building your comparison by adding a TV show or movie. Search for specific titles or choose content from the Popular section below the search bar. Click the + button to add a title.

The titles you add will appear in your Comparison List.

  1. Add more titles to compare

Once you add a a title, you'll see Trends and Total Minutes Watched. Add additional titles (up to 6 total) to see head-to-to head comparisons in both charts.

Click the x at bottom right to delete a title from your Comparison List. Click Remove All at top right to start over. Scroll down to see other Recommended to Compare suggestions below. Recommendations are based on relevance and similarity to the chosen title(s).

  1. Set Time Frame

Time Frame is measured in weeks since release for each title. Week 1 is always the chart week in which SV(M) first measured activity for the title (usually release week).

Comparison defaults to Weeks 1-6. Select one of the other presets from the Time Frame menu or set a custom range. Custom ranges can start after Week 1 of a title's release and end up to Week 52 (one year after release).

Why is release week data for a title not what I expect?

SV(M) began tracking streaming original viewership in 2022. For titles released before 2022, date ranges begin with the date added to the platform and data may not reflect complete viewership modeling.

  1. Finalize and view comparison

As you add or remove titles and change the Time Frame, your comparison in progress will refresh automatically. Scroll down past your Comparison List to see Trends and Total Minutes Watched.

Trends
Trend charts show viewership of each title as a line graph. Titles are color-coded and listed below the X-axis. Switch between Daily or Weekly line plotting at top right. Mouse over a line to see full details: release date, total minutes watched and number of episodes in the season (for TV Shows).

Compare Total Minutes Watched
See total combined activity for each title within the selected time frame. Mouse over a bar in the bar graph to see full details.

Note that if a title in a comparison has been available for less time than the others, total viewership could look misleading. For example, if a title has only been out for 5 weeks, a Weeks 1-26 comparison will include just 5 weeks’ worth of data for that title.

  1. Export Trends

Click at the top right of the Trends pane to export your comparison as a CSV or Excel table. Exports include viewership for each title for all available weeks or days in minutes watched, hours watched and total views.

TV season and episode exports

TV Trends can be exported by season or by episode in CSV or Excel format. Trends by season show weekly or daily totals for each season in your comparison as described above.

Trends by episode break down weekly or daily totals for each individual episode of each season in your comparison, with episode numbers and titles included.
