ArtistMatch: Enrich artist and repertoire data

ArtistMatch: Enrich artist and repertoire data

Disambiguate and enhance artist metadata using ISNI, the International Standard Name Identifier.

ArtistMatch is a service designed to support music publishers, rights holders, and other stakeholders in maintaining accurate artist identities across platforms. We can match, assign and (if needed) register ISNIs for all artists in your repertoire.

Accurate artist identification

Attaching a unique standard identifier to every musical artist corrects misattributions, reduces confusion around artist naming and facilitates proper crediting—which facilitates proper payment to rights holders.

Global standardization

ISNI is an internationally recognized standard that facilitates consistent artist representation across the digital music ecosystem.

Streamlined rights management

Adopting ISNI helps provide consistency across digital service providers (DSPs), collection societies and databases, simplifying the management of artist data.

What ArtistMatch does

Luminate Music Data Enrichment maintains the industry's largest database of musical identifiers, including the International Standard Name Identifier (ISNI). Our dataset provides 100% identifier coverage and includes over 2.5 million ISNIs and 180 million other asset IDs. We use cutting-edge data mapping techniques to link artists to their work within that dataset, matching ISNIs to ISRCs, ISWCs and more.

What’s an ISNI?

An ISNI is an alphanumeric identifier assigned to an artist. This can be an individual performer, a songwriter/composer, a musical group or a collaboration.

The ArtistMatch process ensures that every artist in a catalog has a unique, globally recognized identifier that connects them to their work. As an official ISNI Registration Agency, we can verify existing ISNIs for artists and assign new ones to those without.

ArtistMatch options

Luminate Data Enrichment offers ArtistMatch ISNI matching and repertoire enhancement as recurring services or on a one-time basis. We’ll deliver matches and enriched metadata in table (spreadsheet) format.

Catalog verification: Bulk matching

Submit your entire catalog of artists. We’ll cross-check it against the ISNI database; you’ll receive a detailed report showing which artists in your catalogue have ISNIs, complete with their ISNI numbers, and which artists lack one. (If needed, we can register artists for ISNIs).

Client provides:

  • Artist IDs (internal)*

  • Artist names*

  • Artist types (classification as “band,” “person,” etc)*

  • Repertoire files for each artist*

    • Including all known ISRCs

  • All other known metadata**

Quansic returns:

  • Results for each artist (ISNI or no ISNI)

  • Existing ISNIs

  • Additional IDs and metadata

*Priority input/minimum information needed

**Alternate inputs if priority inputs are not known

Mixed repertoire analysis: Disambiguation for DSPs

Streaming platforms can include multiple artists with the same name. We help disambiguate artists for DSPs by analyzing their databases, reporting errors and assigning all ISRCs to the correct ISNIs.

Sample errors

  • Mixed repertoires: 2 or more artists with the same name

  • Metadata discrepancies: Incorrect or missing artist information

  • Duplicates: Redundant artist listings to merge

  • Missing AKAs: Unlinked artist pseudonyms, alternate names and band member names

  • Missing ISWC-ISRC links: Unattributed recordings or works without complete recording data

Coming soon: Data Doctor

We monitor and disambiguate ISRCs and ISNIs for multiple major DSPs. Right now, that process is partially automated. But we’re currently in development with Data Doctor, a service that compiles error documentation and sends fully automated notifications to our clients.

Included metadata enrichment

ArtistMatch leverages Luminate’s extensive artist dataset to enrich and update your entire repertoire. When we return ISNI matches, we’ll also include all artist metadata and attached IDs in our database.

We can also provide managed and/or automated data exports that comply with the requirements of various distributors, clients, partners or rights management organizations.
