Build a Trend Report

From the CONNECT sidebar menu, select Report Builder > Trend to open the Report Builder.

Some fields will appear blank; others will be pre-filled with default options.
Blank Report Builder: Trend

  1. Name your report

Enter a title for your report on the Report Name line. If you’ve created reports before, you may see a pop-up of previous report titles to start with or adapt.

Title your report something descriptive, like “Taylor Swift Song Sales Last Week - US National.” An ideal report title is short and to the point, but detailed enough to differentiate from your other reports (Report Builder > Management).

  1. Set time frame and location

Below the title line, you can customize Time Frame, Location and Markets (if applicable). Use these fields or the top menu bar to make selections.

Market selection menu
Within the U.S. and Canada, select National (default, nationwide view) or United States/Canada Market. Choosing the Market option enables selection from the list of top markets.

Checking Select All will give a market aggregate, but excludes some data from national providers (i.e. data that is reported nationwide but not at the market level).

A Trend Report can break out market-level data for up to 5 markets at a time.

Market breakouts: Select up to 5 at once
You may select as many U.S. or Canada markets as you like, but a Trend Report export can only break out 5 or fewer markets at a time.

Adding more than 5 markets will sum your selected markets into a combined figure in your export grid.

  1. Include Activities

To the right of Markets, click the Include Activities field to choose activities and breakouts. Your selections will add columns to your Trend Report. This field is mandatory. You must set at least one activity.

Activity selection menu
Hit Click to add to open the Activity Options menu.

Check or uncheck the boxes for Streams, Song Sales, Product Sales and Airplay to include or exclude those activities. Click > to set breakout views (if desired).

Additional Criteria

Click ADD + to open the full Data Controls menu.

Scroll to Release Type and Format to filter by product format and category.

You can also filter by Compilation Type(s) to include or exclude compilations (applies to Release Groups).

You can also use this menu to adjust any of your existing selections. Be sure to
APPLY CHANGES when you’re done.

  1. Add items

Once you’re satisfied with your date, location and activity parameters, click ADD ITEMS to start compiling a list of entities for your Trend Report. Use the search bar to find artists, songs or releases by name. Start typing and suggested results will appear. Check the box next to any result you want to include in your report.

Filter your search by entity type by selecting Artist, Release Group or Song from the fields below the search bar.

Scroll to see all results

Search results initially display up to 60 items. Scroll to the end of the list to populate more entities. Keep scrolling to load more results for your query, ordered by popularity/consumption totals.

Select up to 500

Check the box next to the Name field to include all results. A Trend Report can include up to 500 entities. If your search returns more than 500 results, the Select All option will only check the first 500 on the list.

  1. Finalize selection

To the right of the RESULTS tab, the SELECTED tab displays a count of items you’ve chosen to include so far. Click this tab to view and edit your selections.

Edit Trend Report selections
Use the trash can icon at left to remove an item from the list.

Click SAVE SELECTION at bottom right to return to the main Report Builder page, which now displays your selected list and all your report parameters.
From here, you can search within your selections, check or uncheck items and delete entries if needed. If you’re still under 500 total, click ADD ITEMS again to reopen the search pop-up.

  1. Format your report

When you’re ready, click CONTINUE at bottom right. The Report Format Options pop-up allows you to format your report based on time view and breakout options.

Use the Time View dropdown to select view options for your selected date range. If desired, check the ATD and YTD boxes to include those aggregates. Choose Total or Breakout for the other categories to see either combined or segmented data.

Time View options
Depending on your selected timespan, the menu offers a choice between Daily/Weekly, Weekly/Quarterly or Quarterly/Yearly.
1-60 days / 1-8 weeksDaily (default) or Weekly
60-112 days / 9-17 weeksWeekly only
18-68 weeks / 1-2 yearsWeekly (default) or Quarterly
69-105 weeks / 1-2 yearsWeekly, Quarterly (default) or Yearly
106+ weeks / 2+ yearsQuarterly (default) or Yearly

ATD/YTD numbers in Trend exports
ATD and YTD totals for some items in Trend Report exports may appear lower than ATD/YTD figures on Dashboards.

This is because Trend Reports exclude items, breakouts and days/weeks with no activity. If there's no consumption for an entity or breakout within your time frame, the associated row(s) won't appear in your export. This can omit ATD/YTD values for those breakouts and lower ATD/YTD totals for some items in your export.

In the future, Trend Report exports will include complete ATD/YTD data for all items. For now, use Dashboards to verify total ATD/YTD values for items in your report.

  1. Submit your report

When you’re ready, click BUILD REPORT at bottom right. From here, you can build another report using the same parameters as a starting point, build a new report from scratch or see your in-progress report on the Management page

When your report is complete, you’ll also be able to see details, export it or create a schedule using the Management tool.

Trend Report FAQs

Do ATD/YTD figures in Trend Reports include Interactive Streams?
Yes. Streaming activity in Trend Reports combines all Service Types, including Interactive streaming. We do not exclude Interactive activity from Trend Reports.

How do I include ATD and YTD data?
Before you finalize a Trend Report, you’ll see a Report Format Options pop-up. Check the ATD and YTD boxes to include those values in your export.

Why are some ATD and YTD values blank in my Trend Report export?
Trend Report exports display ATD and YTD 1) As weekly values, not daily values, and 2) Up to the end of the time frame specified in your report.

If you run a Trend Report for a single week, but break out daily data, ATD/YTD will be listed for the last day of the week only; the figure represents the full week. If you include multiple weeks, ATD/YTD will only appear for the final week with recorded activity.

Why do some ATD/YTD values appear in rows before the end of my date range?
ATD and YTD represent cumulative totals up to the last week of available data

Some breakouts in a multi-week time frame won’t show activity for the entire period covered by the report. In these cases, ATD/YTD will appear for the most recent week of activity within your date range.

Why don’t ATD and YTD totals in my exported Trend Report match Dashboard totals?
Trend Reports exclude items with zero activity.

If there’s no consumption recorded for an entity or breakout within your time frame, the associated row(s) won’t appear in your output. This is to avoid rows with activity values of “0.” However, this also omits ATD/YTD values for those rows, lowering ATD/YTD totals for some items.

Trend Reports with shorter time frames and more breakouts are more likely to “leave out” rows of ATD/YTD data. For example, an item with Song Sales last month but none this week won’t appear in your weekly Trend export, excluding its ATD/YTD values from your totals.

In the future, Trend Report exports will include complete ATD/YTD data for all items. For now, use Dashboards to verify ATD/YTD values for all items in your report.
